Dell Technologies: AI Portfolio Review

Dell Technologies is supporting artificial intelligence (AI) use cases with a range of products that help enterprises sort and store their large volumes of data.

Globally, data creation is predicted to reach over 180 zettabytes in a year by 2025, according to Statista.

Across industries, companies are looking to AI and vendors in the space, like Dell, to deal with the ongoing growth of data they’re facing.

Dell Technologies and the AI market

The AI market was valued at $328.34 billion in 2021, and it is projected to increase to $387.45 billion in 2022. Between 2019 and 2020, the AI market grew 150%.

Dell Technologies is leaning on its breadth of capabilities and experience across the tech industry to help customers stay up to date with AI.

“Artificial intelligence is a game changer, but our customers tell us they’re lagging behind in adoption, because they’re dealing with skills and infrastructure gaps,” said Tom Burns, SVP integrated products and solutions, Dell Technologies.

“We’re bringing together the power of Dell Technologies to help customers simplify the process of running AI workloads at scale in their familiar VMware environments.”

Use Case

The Miami Dolphins wanted to expand fan engagement through video in 2020. Previously, the Dolphins’ technology could not support their needs.

Working with Dell Technologies, the Dolphins used different AI technologies, including ML, to help achieve a better video workflow, save $1.2 million over the partnership, and cut the time to post game-day videos to social media.

Several Dell products supporting AI, such as Dell PowerScale, Dell PowerScale SyncIQ, Dell VxRail, were used for cost-efficient storage of game data construction, flexible replication of data, and safety and security. According to Dell, the infrastructure runs the stadium and training camp centers in Florida and a new colocation disaster recovery facility in Texas.

The Dolphins also put their trust in Dell and the implementation for the Super Bowl.

“The flawless performance of the Dell Technologies infrastructure throughout Super Bowl LIV underscored why we chose Dell Technologies,” says Kim Rometo, VP and CIO, Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium.

Romento says Dell Technologies “bent over backwards to make sure we got everything right. Knowing they care as much about our business as we do has been huge.”

Differentiators

  • Power algorithms for ML: Dell optimizes the power and cooling of servers for system efficiency for ML performance
  • AI incubators: Dell Technologies announced an 18-month plan to fund, along with Intel, incubators for AI solutions and talent in communities across the country, in association with the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC)
  • AI Centers of Excellence: The research laboratories focused on the AI design, testing, and collaboration are in various countries, such as Australia, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, India, and China

Conclusions

Dell Technologies is staying up to date with the developing AI technologies and market. As AI tech advances, so does Dell Technologies, with its founder and CEO, Michael Dell leading the vision.

“We’re now talking about zettabytes and yottabytes of data, because as everything becomes intelligent and connected, it’s generating enormous amounts of data and all the data has to be reasoned over to make it effective,” Dell said.

As data continues to grow and companies rely more on AI, Dell Technologies is investing in AI research, partnerships, integrations, and IT resources for the tech to position itself well in the AI market.
