China Stealing ‘Great Deal’ of U.S. Military Secrets

InformationWeek: Testifying before the Senate Armed Services Committee, National Security Agency (NSA) director Gen. Keith Alexander said that China is behind a number of cyberattacks on U.S. targets. He blamed the Chinese for the theft of a “great deal” of military intellectual property, saying, “I can’t go into the specifics here, but we do see [thefts] from defense industrial base companies.” He added, “There are some very public [attacks], though. The most recent one was the RSA exploits.”

Alexander called for closer cooperation between industry and the government in preventing and responding to attacks. “I think that industry should have the ability to see these attacks and share them with us in real time,” he said. “It’s like neighborhood watch. Somebody is breaking into a bank, and somebody needs to be in touch with the police to stop it.”
